Good day CrewMembers and welcome to “Opening Night: Willow."

Remember gang, the purpose of the “Opening Night” feature is to give newcomers the foundations and basic information to be able to enjoy the program more fully. We work to avoid probable spoilers and speculation to allow everyone to enjoy “THOSE” moments together. We take our focus from the trailers and on-the-record news confirmed by the cast and crew.

The 80's were a magical age when Fantasy movies were awesome, yet generally unrecognized in their time and destined to become cult classics. Movies like Dark Crystal, Legend, The NeverEnding Story, Labyrinth, and Willow fascinated and freaked out children yet many failed to capture a wide audience. Which is probably the reason most (MOST does not include The NeverEnding Story Parts 2 and 3...) went unsequeled in their time. Now those fascinated, freaked out children have grown up and infiltrated Hollywood and LucasFilm will finally deliver on a promise years in the making and is unleashing a Willow sequel series on Disney+.

As the intro probably tipped you off, "Willow" is the first sequel to Willow. Since Legacy Sequels are a huge buzzword right now, this will probably be labeled as such. While the official definition of a Legacy Sequel is "a work that follows the continuity of the original work(s), but takes place further along the timeline, often focusing on new characters with the original ones still present in the plot," generally they come on the scene to erase years of previous sequels. That is why this less flowery name for Legacy Sequels are Re-quels.

Anyhow, there is only one Willow movie and now there is one "Willow" sequel. That makes this Opening Night Pre-Viewing Checklist very easy for you.

Now if you do get antsy for more Willow before the series premiere, there's always The Chronicles of the Shadow War trilogy. This is a set of books that were outlined by George Lucas (creator and Executive Producer of Willow, oh yeah and creator of STAR WARS) and written by comic book veteran Chris Claremont.

~Until then, enjoy the show!
